Voting Question: How can I stress the importance of family to my children?

How can I stress the importance of family to my young children when my own family won't even get together with us for Thanksgiving? My mom is dead, my dad lives in California. My husband's family is in Kentucky andwe live in Virginia but they won't travel here. My sister lives 12 miles from us, but says they have other things to do on Thanksgiving. So, it will be "just us" for Thanksgiving (my husband, myself and three kids). How in the world are they supposed to appreciate "family togetherness" if their family won't even get together for the holidays??
